How to send messages to the other parent

Create conversations by child and topic, reply, react and edit your messages in Family Bridge. Text messaging is free and unlimited.

Family Bridge messaging keeps communication about the children apart from your personal chats. Text messages are unlimited on every plan.

Open Messages

  • Tap the Messages tab.
  • Filter by child and by category: General, Medical, School, Activities, Schedule, Expenses, Emergency or Other.
  • Each conversation shows the latest message and how many you haven't read.

Start a conversation

  1. Tap New conversation.
  2. Type the topic, for example “Winter break”.
  3. Choose the child and the category.
  4. Select the participants from your linked co-parents.
  5. Create the conversation and write your first message.

Inside a conversation

  • Press and hold a message to Reply, React, Edit or Delete (your own only) or Report it.
  • You'll see when the other parent is typing and when they've read your messages.
  • From the conversation settings you can block a participant, rate the conversation, close it or leave it.
  • With Pro you can attach photos, videos and files, use FamilyBot's Tone check before sending, and Export conversation to PDF.

Messages are stored with date, time and read receipts. Each person can edit or delete their own messages.

Best practices

  • Be clear and direct, with one topic per conversation.
  • Reply within a reasonable time, for example 24 to 48 hours.
  • Use respectful language, even when you disagree.
  • Acknowledge important messages.
  • If a topic gets tense, wait before replying or use the tone check (Pro). In some cases moderation may pause a conversation for a few hours so things can cool down.
